R. Parthiban is an Indian actor, producer, and director, who mainly works in the Tamil film industry. He is also a prolific writer. He has acted in over 60 films and directed and produced over 26 Tamil films. He is known for directing critically acclaimed films such as Pudhiya Padhai (1989) and Housefull (1999), and these films received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. In 1980, R. Parthiban went to Madras and joined a theater company, headed by the late SV Ramadoss, who is remembered for playing villains in Tamil films.

Birth and studies of R. Parthiban

 He was born in 1957 near Thoothugudi. After passing the HSC exam in 1974, Parthiban moved to Madras to become an actor. Parhiban did his DFE (Diploma in Film Editing) from the Tambaram Institute of Film and Technology. After graduating in 1979, she briefly wrote short stories for Tamil magazines under the pseudonym “Bharti”. In 1984, Partiban K. Bhagyaraj’s personal assistant later became assistant director.

R. Parthiban’s debut and acting career

In 1980, R.Parthiban went to Madras and joined a theater company, headed by the late SV Ramadoss, who is remembered for playing villains in Tamil films.

 In 1981, R.Parthiban made his acting debut with the Tamil film Ranuva Veeran. Parthiban’s first film as an assistant director was Vedikkai Manidhargal

in 1982. In this film, he played the character of R. Helped the idol. Two years later, Parthiban K. Joined Bhagyaraj as assistant manager. Soon, R Parthiban started dubbing for various artists for which he earned Rs. 6000 per month.

 In 1984, Parthiban appeared in the film Dhavani Kanavugal in which he played therole of a postman.

In 1984, R.Partiban Started his career as assistant director for K.  Bhagyaraj, and from 1984 to 1991 worked with K. Bhagyaraj in more than twenty films. The Bhagyaraj-Parthiban duo acted in over forty films from 1984 to 1991. Parthiban also had minor roles in many of Bhagyaraj’s films. Parthiban’s major directorial debuts include “Pudiya Padhai” released in 1989 and “Housefull” released in 1999, for which he won Best Feature Film.

As an actor, some of his hit films include Bharathi Kannamma (1997), Azagi (2002), Aiyarathil Oruvan (2010), Melvilasam (2011), and Otha Seruppu Size 7 (2019). Later, R. This was followed by a National Award-winning performance in Housefull and several popular films in the late 90s and early 2000s such as Spittu Sandhu, Tirupuram, Kannata Kanadhavan, and James Pandu. He also immersed himself in comedy and had memorable funny scenes with Vadivel and Bharathi Kanamma.

R Parthiban moved away from commercial cinema and towards critically acclaimed films like Azagi, Ammuvagiya Naan, and Thendral, remaking several Thangar Bachchan concepts.

In 2018, Parthiban was elected as the new Vice Chairman of the Tamil Film Producers Council. Before him, Gautam Menon was the vice-present. Later, after taking his place, Prakash Raj also joined him in this position until December 2018.

Besides being an actor and director, he also produces films. Also, very few people know that the actor is endowed with an extraordinary talent for writing. Parthiban is the author of the book “Kirukkalgal- Thamizag Kavithai Thoguppu” which was published by Mr. Karunanidhi. Runs a charity organization under the name “R.Partiban Manithaneya Mandaram”.

Sita is an Indian actress and producer known primarily for her work in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu cinema films. R Parthiban is married to actress Sita and has two daughters – Keerthana and Anushree of Kannathil Muttamital fame Sita started her acting career in 1985 and was one of the mainstream heroines from 1985 to 1991. Sita and Parthiban divorced in 2018. Sita returned to the film industry with the 2002 film Maran.
